Production and instalment coordination for the solo exhibition of Paola Pivi for The Art Gallery of Western Australia
The exhibition "Paola Pivi – I don't like it, I love it," by Italian artist Paola Pivi, currently being held at The Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) in Perth, Australia, is the largest exhibition of Pivi's work in her nearly 30-year career. It features a selection of major works from Pivi's entire career, along with commissioned pieces created specifically for AGWA's unique architectural space.
Among them, the new work, "Fortunately, one picture is worth a thousands of these suckers… (homage to Lincoln Peirce)," is over 13 meters tall and 12 meters wide, and it was created and installed in collaboration with the artist for the museum's atrium.
The piece is based on a panel from the comic "Big Nate" by renowned American cartoonist Lincoln Pierce. While the context before and after this panel isn't actually shown in the comic, it features Nate's line, "Pictures speak louder than anything like that."
This work is said to be a tribute to the comic format, which played an important role in Piv's transition from a chemical engineering student to an artist. In addition to this piece, the exhibition includes works the artist has created in Europe and America, as well as works that Pivi created and completed on-site, showcasing the breadth of the artist's work.
